“Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.” ~Seneca
A question that you may ask yourself is, “How can adversity be seen as an opportunity?” Well, in life, being extraordinary will take some guts, determination and the will to make it. How does adversity prepare you? Adversity makes us stronger, because each challenge we face and overcome is a step closer to becoming a stronger person. I am not encouraging that you go and seek adversity to test your strength. However, you want to embrace it when it shows up. I once heard if you look for the the good in each situation you’ll find it. Rather, some people only see the challenges. I hope in all adverse situations you look for the opportunity. It was Og Mandino who said, “Remind thyself, in the darkest moments, that every failure is only a step toward success, every detection of what is false directs you toward what is true, every trial exhausts some tempting form of error, and every adversity will only hide, for a time, your path to peace and fulfillment.” See each challenge as an opportunity to GROW!
A challenging situation may just provide the growth that is needed for you to grow in your personal and professional life. Whereas, the adversity that is looked upon as an opportunity may spark that creativity that has been lingering on the inside. It was W. Clement Stone who said, “Every great man, every successful man, no matter what the field of endeavor, has known the magic that lies in these words: every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.” To strengthen a weak muscle you have to work on it. That is what adversity does to us at times, it shows us where we are weak. Therefore, we get the opportunity to turn our weakness into strength. It was Horace who said, “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” Therefore, when life punches you, don’t just stand there and wonder what was that. PUNCH BACK, and doing so, you will notice how skillful you are. In fact, jab when you have to! Throw upper cuts too! Also, you may have to duck. Whatever you do, see yourself as a winner. Because you ARE!
Adversity provides us with:
- The chance of becoming stronger. It builds our strength.
- The opportunity to seek help from others.
- The opportunity to tap in to our creativity.
- The opportunity to see life as more interesting.
- The opportunity to stretch. Be more flexible.
- The opportunity to strengthen our faith.
- The opportunity to recognize areas in which we are naturally strong.
